"...packs a deceptive, satisfying emotional punch."

Actually I’ve never fainted in my entire life. But there’s always a first time!
My second novel, Principles of (E)motion releases on January 9, 2024. If you haven’t already, you can order a signed and personalized copy from Bluebird & Co.
PRINCIPLES OF (E)MOTION is a STEMinist novel about a brilliant, reclusive mathematician who solves a famously difficult—and famously valuable—problem known as “the Impossible Theorem” but must confront her anxiety and the prejudices of her field when challenged to prove that the proof is her own.
This is the book that I very, very first wanted to write when I read Elizabeth Gaskell’s Victorian era masterpiece, North and South, and thought, ‘I want to do that.’ Of course I didn’t write anything as genius as North and South, nor did I write anything remotely Victorian (Principles is 100% contemporary), but I think I captured a wee bit of the vibe, which is all I was really after.
I’m too excited to get my thoughts together about this. Being philosophical will have to wait.
A few events are on the books and I’ll keep you posted when I schedule more. If you’d like me to visit your local bookstore or book club, let me know!

What I’m Reading
Full disclosure: I do not normally read YA. And Emily Thiede is my friend.
If you have friends who are published… You know how you want to want to read their book. You want to like their book. You want to be able to say genuinely enthusiastic things about it?
Well I didn’t need any of that wanting with This Vicious Grace. The fact that I know Emily got me to read a YA book I probably wouldn’t normally have picked up, but the book itself did the rest.
This was SO FUN. Emily writing is fresh and confident. The world she creates is rich and full, the characters real, the magic so interesting, and the romance so swoony. And let’s not even get started on the banter. It was delightful to get swept away by a book, both as a reader and as a writer. (As in, omg I did not see that midpoint twist coming!)
Highly recommend. And there’s a sequel which just released!
